Jazz and the Struggle for Freedom

As diverse communities across the country hold Juneteenth celebrations and remembrances, it is worth remembering the struggle for freedom is far from over.

The Jazz Arts Group is proud to rebroadcast “Jazz & the Struggle for Freedom,” a concert with conversation featuring Columbus Jazz Orchestra Artistic Director Byron Stripling and Michelle Alexander, legal scholar, award-winning New York Times opinion writer, and best-selling author of “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.”

Timely and thought-provoking, the conversation covers issues of race, diversity, civil liberties, and mass incarceration. And musical interludes throughout feature Stripling and a top-flight rhythm section and singers adding melodic counterpoint through jazz, blues, R&B and gospel styles.
